Open-Faced Cheeseburger Sliders

Ingredients: Makes 8 open-faced sliders
1 pound lean ground turkey or 93% lean ground beef, plus olive oil for sautéing patties
Salt & pepper, plus other seasonings as desired
4 whole wheat slider buns, separated
1 small sweet onion, sliced
2 cups sliced mushrooms
2-4 slices deli Swiss cheese, quartered

Directions:
Add meat to a large bowl. Season generously with salt and pepper, plus any additional seasonings, if desired (garlic powder, dried parsley, crushed red pepper, etc.). Shape into 8 patties and set aside.

In a pan, add a splash of oil, plus onions and mushrooms. Season with salt and pepper and sauté on medium-low heat for 5-7 minutes or until onions are softened and start to brown. Remove mixture and cover to keep warm. Set aside.

In the same pan, add a splash of olive oil, and cook patties, 4 at a time, on medium-low heat, about 3-4 minutes per side or until internal temperature reaches 165.

When patties are almost done, add 1-2 quartered pieces of Swiss to each one, and let it melt for the duration of cook time. Then, transfer patties to slider buns, top with onions and mushrooms, and serve.
