1 loaf French bread or brioche, cut into 1-inch cubes
2/3 cup whole milk or 2% milk
1 cup brown sugar
1 stick butter, softened
Preheat oven to 350. Grease a 9×9 inch pan and add bread. In a bowl, combine milk and eggs, and pour over bread. (Optional: To make ahead, you can do this part the night before.) In a separate bowl, combine brown sugar and softened butter. Top the French toast with the brown sugar mixture. Bake 20-25 minutes. Serve with warm maple syrup.
If you have it: Combine 1 tablespoon sugar with 1/4 tablespoon cinnamon and sprinkle it over the French toast before cooking. Or, top with confectioner’s sugar after cooking.
